Two hundred kilobytes is a generous ceiling usually seen on NTA examination photograph fields — the 10 KB to 200 KB photo band that has appeared on NEET UG, JEE Main and CUET application screens — and on multi-page document uploads.
Detail, not size. A 200 KB budget comfortably holds a sharp 600 x 800 px photograph, so there is no reason to compress aggressively. Use the space and submit the cleanest image the limit allows.
