Common questions
This keys out pixels by colour similarity rather than identifying a subject. On a flat or near-flat background — white, a studio backdrop, a solid screenshot fill — it is instant, free and often cleaner than a model. On a busy photograph with a person against real scenery it will not work, and the AI background remover is the right tool there.
Logos and wordmarks on white, product photographs shot on a seamless backdrop, screenshots, scanned stamps and seals, charts exported with a solid fill, and any graphic where the background is one colour or a narrow range of one colour.
A hard cutoff produces hard edges. Increase the feather setting to soften the boundary, and reduce the tolerance so less of the subject is caught. A coloured fringe usually means the tolerance is too low and a ring of blended background pixels survived — raise it slightly.
The tolerance is too high, so colours inside the subject matched the background key. Lower it. If the subject genuinely contains the background colour — a white shirt on a white backdrop — colour keying cannot separate them and you need the AI background remover instead.
JPEG has no alpha channel, so it physically cannot store transparency — saving as JPG fills the removed area with white. PNG and WebP both support transparency; PNG is the safer choice because every application accepts it.
